History
Lay-Vee, Inc (LVI) was a custom kitchen manufacturing company opened in Southern California in the 1970’s by Thomas H. Lavey. Tom was from Topeka, Kansas, a child of the Great Depression and a World World II veteran. When the war was over and he was deciding on what he should do for work, he returned to his childhood passion of collecting metal he found at the train yards (he later worked here in his teen years to help support his widowed mother) and polishing them into something he could sell.
LVI did work around the world and was well-respected over the many years Tom ran his business. It started in the family room with his small children and later moved to a large manufacturing building in the City of Industry. Tom was known for his unrivaled work ethic, attention to detail and pride of workmanship and expected this of his employees too. Growing up poor, having and paying a fair wage was very important to him, and giving back to the community and those less fortunate, was a hallmark of his life.
LVI Engineering opened its doors, carrying forward all the attributes and priorities that Tom Lavey held for LVI. With the pride of his only granddaughter Kate and her husband Joe, the legacy of ambition, hard work and a solid reputation lives on.
Overview
LVI Engineering is a heavy civil engineering, construction and service company. We specialize in various construction activities such as building demolition, excavation, grading, utility installation, decorative and structural concrete, structural shoring and landscaping.
In addition to our traditional role as a General Contractor we also have the experience & capability to lead or support pre-construction activities, design-build, design-build-assist and alternative delivery method projects.

John Hinke
Project Manager & Estimator
As a Project Manager and Estimator at LVI Engineering, John oversees project execution and estimating efforts. He brings over ten years of experience in the heavy-civil construction industry with a strong background in project management and cost estimating. John has extensive knowledge of project scheduling, estimating, and coordinating all aspects and phases of the projects.
